[…]FOX has announced that its freshman medical drama, The Resident (starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp), has been renewed for a second season.
Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox Broadcasting company, said:
Amy, Todd and all the producers on The Resident set out to create a medical show that viewers haven’t seen before — to peel back the curtain and reveal the truth of what happens, both good and bad, behind the scenes at hospitals across the country. Clearly, they’ve succeeded. Matt, Emily, Bruce, Manish, Shaunette and the show’s entire cast have turned in consistently heartfelt performances, and we are so excited to go back to Chastain Memorial for another tremendous season.
The series is currently averaging more than 10 million multi-platform viewers per episode, and it improves its year-ago time period by 31% in the key Adults 18-49 demographic.
The Hollywood actress will play an international mediator in Chloe Robichaud’s second feature.
The Canadian-born actress is to play an international mediator in Pays (Borders), from writer-director Chloe Robichaud and indie producers Item 7 and La Boite a Fanny. VanCamp will portray Emily Price, who balances family life and leading crunch negotiations between a Canadian politician (Nathalie Doummar) and the president of a country whose natural resources are being exploited, played by Macha Grenon.
Before Revenge, VanCamp had a breakout role in Brothers and Sisters, and is part of Marvel’s Captain America movie franchise. Pays is the follow-up to Robichaud’s first feature, Sarah Prefers to Run, which debuted in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2013.
The Canadian indie also stars Yves Jacques, Alexandre Landry, Serge Houde, Sophie Faucher and Remy Girard. Pays is produced by Fanny-Laure Malo, Pierre Even, Marie-Claude Poulin and Barbara Doran.
Production has started in Montreal, before shifting in November to Newfoundland. Les Films Seville will release Pays in Canada.
In the wake of Revenge ending its four-season run on ABC, sources tell Deadline that actress Emily VanCamp is returning as Agent 13 aka Kate aka Sharon Carter in Walt Disney Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War.
Agent 13 appeared briefly in Captain America: Winter Soldier as the superhero’s next door neighbor under the alias of Kate. She is ordered by S.H.I.E.L.D. to protect him. Her storyline in Civil War is under wraps. In the comics, Sharon is the niece of Peggy Carter, Captain America’s love interest in the first feature installment, who also had her own miniseries on ABC, Agent Carter, earlier this year. The films have not yet established that Agent 13 is Sharon Carter, though she is known as such by legions of Marvel fans. VanCamp is repped by United Talent Agency and Thruline Entertainment.
Captain America: Civil War opens on May 6, 2016 and is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo who also helmed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. VanCamp is also starring in the indie feature The Girl In The Book from director/writer Marya Cohn. The final episode of Revenge “Two Graves” airs this Sunday.
